Reference checks

Q: As an employer, how important is it to conduct reference checks on job candidates?

A:

Employers should always conduct reference checks on candidates. Even though past employers are often hesitant to provide this information. If an employer does not conduct reference checks, the company is open to possible negligent hiring lawsuits. This occurs when a company hires a person it should have known would cause harm to other employees or customers .
