Q: What is COLA?

A:

Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is an adjustment made to a salary structure to account for the change to an index (I.e. Consumer Price Index). COLA adjustments are then made to individual employee salaries based on company policy and are typically granted to employees as "general salary increases". COLA's have historically been a part of bargaining agreements and/or related to manufacturing operations and direct labor employees.
