A benchmark job is defined in one of two ways (1) a job commonly found in the labor marketplace or (2) a job that is highly relevant/populated within a company. Therefore, market data for benchmark jobs is readily available or critically important. Benchmark jobs are used in job evaluations to slot other company jobs around and are also used as a basis for establishing pay programs.
